DEVIN ROBINSON

FOUNDING PRINCIPAL / MANAGING PARTNER

Born to a military service family and raised in Houston, Texas; Devin Robinson grew up in a family with a rich history of creative craftspeople and builders throughout his immediate and extended family. Prior to receiving any formal training in architecture, Mr. Robinson was actively engaged in the applied arts (drawing, sculpture, photography, et al.). This involvement provided him with a critical awareness of the implications of decisions made relating to scale, form, material, color, and light. All skills are drawn upon when working with Clients on projects of every size and scope.

He obtained his education in architectural design and construction at the University of Houston Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture. During these formative years, he received the esteemed Gerald D. Hines Study Abroad Internship and was able to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity to practice in an international office of architecture, the office of Enrique Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue Architects (EMBT) in Barcelona, Spain. During his time with EMBT, Mr. Robinson was immersed in Spanish art and culture expanding his knowledge of alternative approaches to design regarding the Architectural Profession. Upon completion of his international internship with EMBT; Mr. Robinson returned to the United States where he was recruited by the highly regarded Washington D.C. office of the oldest architectural firm in Texas, Page Southerland Page (PAGE). He participated in the programming and feasibility assessment for the Smithsonian Institute’s Museum of African-American History and Culture, recently completed on the National Mall. Additionally, Mr. Robinson worked on building designs and space planning exercises for prototype school buildings in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Prior to forming Kinetic Design Lab, LLC.; Mr. Robinson further honed his architectural and construction project management skill set by working in the commercial, residential, institutional, and educational sectors of the Houston market.

Most notably Mr. Robinson was employed with the highly regarded Houston offices of Harrison Kornberg Architects, Newberry Campa Architects, Glassman Shoemake Maldonado Architects (GSMA) and Courtney Harper + Partners (CH+P) specializing in the management of these offices’ commercial works.

The current redevelopment and modernization of the Houston skyline continues to remind him of the importance, and impact of, building design decisions made at all scales. The correct planning and strategic engagement of all moving parts of a project and in the design and ultimate building process is key to Mr. Robinson’s approach from the outset, as the quality of the built environment and the responsibility of the designer to their client and the greater good of society at large is always foremost on his mind. This approach is of fundamental importance and utilized on any project Mr. Robinson is involved with regardless of scope or size, a skills set intuitively linked to provide for the best design solution to an architectural endeavor.

Mr. Robinson looks forward to the opportunity of working with you and your Team.
